“Leave no traces” - the latest film by our graduate and lecturer, Dr. Jan P. Matuszyński, the creator of the worldwide award-winning “The Last Family” and the TV series “The King of Warsaw” became the Polish candidate for the Oscars. The selection was made by the Oscars committee chaired by a producer Ewa Puszczyńska.

“Leave no traces” is set in Poland, 1983. The country is shaken by the case of Grzegorz Przemyk – a high school student beaten to death by militia. Based on true events, the film follows the story of Jurek – the only witness of the beating, who overnight became the number one enemy of the state. The oppressive regime used its whole apparatus – the secret service, militia, the media and the courts – to squeeze Jurek and other people close to the case, including his parents and Przemyk’s mother, Barbara.

The world premiere of the film will take place on September 9 as part of the Main Competition of the 78th Venice International Film Festival. The film will be released in Polish cinemas on September 24.

The 94th American Film Academy Awards is scheduled for March 27, 2022.
