Krzysztof Zanussi

Krzysztof Zanussi

Film director, screenwriter, writer, publicist. He studied physics at the University of Warsaw (1955-1959) and philosophy at the Jagiellonian University (1959-1962). He graduated from directing in 1967 in Lodz. He was active in amateur film movement, realizing 11 films, 9 of them received various awards. Since 1980, he was artistic director of the team, then director of the Film Studio "TOR". In 1971-1983 he was a Vice President of the Polish Filmmakers Association, and in 1975-1977 a Chairman of the Polish Federation of Film Discussion Clubs. Since 1987 he has been a member of the Cinematography Committee.

He has lectured at many film universities, including the Lodz Film School, National Film School in the UK, Columbia University in New York, the higher directing courses in Moscow. For thirty years he has been associated with the University of Silesia. He is also a theatre and opera director. He directs in the theatres, among others, in Milan, Rome, Palermo, Syracuse, Bonn, Moscow, Bremen, Basel.

In 1990-1994 he was a President of the Federation of European Film Directors (FERA). The former president of the Association EUROVISIONI. Board member of the European Film Academy, Polish Academy of Sciences, PEN-Club, Polish Writers Association. Doctor Honoris Causa of the Moscow WGIK, "I.L. Caragiale"(Bucharest), European Humanities University (Minsk), Bulgarian University (Sofia), University of Film and Television (St. Petersburg), Catholic University of Lublin, University in Opole, Yanka Kupała Grodno State University, Peter Pazmany Catholic University in Budapest.
