🗣 [...] Kraina is essentially deserted. The image of a human appears in only two photographs – visible in the oval portraits on tombstones. As a living being, a person is completely absent – and this is not by accident. A major inspiration for the creation of this album is the difficult history of the Podkarpacie region. It relates to displacements and various human tragedies that took place in these lands. The absence of people in the album is significant – it symbolically shows that entire communities once lived in this region, but sadly, they are no longer here. It was also a multicultural melting pot. This land holds blood in its soil. The annihilated life stands in stark contrast to the beautiful nature that surrounds it.

The Kraina album by Krzysztof Szlapa is available at the Silesian Museum Library and in the Film Library of the Krzysztof Kieślowski Film School in Katowice.
