Four etudes produced at the Kieślowski Film School have been selected for the International Short Film Competition at the 16th Lublin Film Festival. The competition selections comprise 133 short films from all over the world. The 16th Lublin Film Festival takes place from November 18 to November 26 at the Cultural Center in Lublin.

Here are our films up for the International Short Film Competition:

The competition films also included a documentary directed by our film school graduate and lecturer, Andrzej Cichocki, “A Little Bit of Paradise” (2020). In addition, the films of our graduates, “Beyond is the Day” (2020), directed by Damian Kocur, and “We Have One Heart” (2020), directed by Katarzyna Warzecha, have also been selected for the competition.

The Lublin Film Festival is one of Poland’s most prominent festivals of independent cinema. The program of this year’s edition includes nearly 150 short and full-length productions from around the world. The theme of this year’s festival is freedom.

We cordially invite you to a discussion about film art and technique with Prof. Jerzy Łukaszewicz, Vice Dean for Science and Art at the Kieślowski Film School. The event titled “Misterium modułu czerni obrazu filmowego” will take place on November 22, 2022, at 1:30 p.m. at the Scientific Information Centre and Academic Library (CINiBA) at ul. Bankowa 11a (ground floor). Maciej Kędziora, deputy editor-in-chief of Filmawka.pl and a student of Kieślowski Film School, will host the discussion. It will be devoted to the book “Event – technique – art. The thinking of film art. Observations” by Prof. Jerzy Łukaszewicz, published by the University of Silesia Press.

On November 21-25, 2022, Academic Book Week, an event promoting science and scientific literature, will be held in the halls of CINiBA. The event’s vital element will be a series of discussion panels open to the general public, attended by the authors of books published in recent months by the University of Silesia Press. The debates will have specialists from various fields discuss a given topic. Thus, a historian will discuss with an artist and a literature expert with a lawyer. The issues discussed will include, among others: the prospects of modern education, the issue of violence and intolerance, and the issue of the impact of the visual sphere on the individual. Meetings with the authors of popular and award-winning books, a lecture on the benefits and responsibilities of writing books, and a series of workshops on publishing and library science for high school students will complement the program.

The book, “From the Department of Film Propaganda to the Central Office of Cinematography: The First Decade of Party-State Monopoly in Polish cinema” penned by Prof. Ewa Gębicka, a lecturer at the Kieślowski Film School, has been nominated for the Bolesław Michałek award for the best Polish film book of the year.

Published by the University of Silesia Press, it deals with Polish cinema as a social institution shaped by political, economic, and artistic influences. The author examines the infrastructure of filmmaking and the practices of film production and dissemination. By analyzing the impact of politics on the material equipment of the cinema, the attitudes of filmmakers and viewers, the shape of film production, distribution, and exploitation systems, and the nature of the relationships between them, she aims to identify the basic regularities of the functioning of this institution in the conditions of state monopoly and party dictate.

The jury will announce the results on December 12, 2022, at the “Kina” awards gala held at Kino Luna, Warsaw.

Films produced at the Kieślowski Film School have won laurels at the 15th Offeliada Film Festival. “Time to Revolt” (2022), directed by Daniel Le Hai, “Imprisoned” (2021), directed by Piotr Bieliński and “The Hero” (2021), directed by Milena Dutkowska bagged awards and distinctions at the 15th edition of the Offeliada Film Festival in Gniezno.

Grand Jury Awards went to the documentary etudes “Imprisoned” and “Time to Revolt”. The main jury was composed of Leszek Dawid, Maria Wiernikowska, and Daniel Rycharski.

“Imprisoned” also received the Stanisław Brzozowski Krytyka Polityczna Award for “special social sensitivity of a film work.”

“The Hero” won the “Icarus” Award of the Gniezno Fantasy Fantasmagoria Club for the best film dealing with subjects of fantasy or science fiction and the “Hamlet” Award from the Student Jury.

The animated film “C’est la vie,” co-directed by an employee of the Kieślowski Film School, Wojciech Sankiewicz, is also one of the festival’s winners. “C’est la vie” won the Grand Jury award and the Mikołaj Wojciechowski Scholarship of PLN 2,000 awarded to promising filmmakers.

The 15th edition of the Offeliada Film Festival took place on November 10-13, 2022, in Gniezno.
