We are pleased to inform you that the Institute of Film and Theater Arts of the Kieślowski Film School together with the City Museum in Tychy, is the organizer of a meeting with the authors of the book entitled "Nowe miasto. Nowe widzenie” ("New town. A new seeing”).

In the academic year 2021/2022, students of the Kieślowski Film School documented the city of Tychy. They created under the supervision of their lecturer, a respected artist, prof. Rafał Milach, and museologist Ewelina Lasota.

Young people, detached from computer screens (after a period of distance learning during the COVID-19 epidemic), went to the city. In 2021, 70 years since Tychy construction began, there was a feeling that there were still insufficiently explored areas of the city.

The resulting book is formally and conceptually diverse. It presents topics such as new architecture or local identity manifested in attachment to the local soccer team. The students are interested in the relationship between people and the space in which they live. Their individual portraits in a clash with the repeatability and uniformity of the place of residence.

How do young people take over the city, occupying backyards, vacant buildings and shopping malls? What prospects does the city offer to today's thirty-year-olds: married couples, singles, natives and foreigners? What is the future of shopkeepers and craftsmen displaced by chain stores? The authors ask questions about what is everyday.

Participants of the photo project: Bartosz Gaczyński, Paweł Grabarek, Tomasz Grzymała, Lena Jabłońska, Jakub Kaźmierczak, Anna Ryń and Jakub Stoszek.

Scientific and technical artistic supervision: prof. Rafał Milach

Substantive care and coordination: Ewelina Lasota

We would like to remind you about the possibility of visiting the Silesian Museum in Katowice, where until May 7, 2023 you have the opportunity to get acquainted with the work of one of the lecturers of the Kieślowski Film School, prof. Ryszard Czernow.

The exhibition of cybergraphy "Ryszard Czernow Vanitas 2023" brings together a multi-meaning collection of works from both previous years and those less distant, recently gone - one could say, contemporary.

The artist's leitmotif is the broadly understood transience, understood as a more or less destructive passage of time, affecting everything that surrounds society, through material things to ourselves. Everything is destroyed and nothing is permanent, and this is just a process that starts from the very beginning of creation.

The professor himself admits that he leaves some room for interpretation of his works, thus forcing the viewer to reflect, depending on his sensitivity and life experience. It means that everyone has a chance to see something different among digital compositions.

This week our faculty hosts a special guest - we present to you Lediona Kasapi!

Lediona Kasapi shares with students of the Kieślowski Film School her knowledge in the field of: festival strategies, national and international distribution, film marketing, and thus film sales in the broad sense.

Our guest works at TVCO, an Italian company dealing with international film distribution. Lediona Kasapi specializes in finding films with appropriate commercial potential, which she sells and distributes in many fields of exploitation.

Students are fascinated by Lediona Kasapi's openness and her rich experience, which is accompanied by the ease in providing valuable information during classes. The tips obtained this week will undoubtedly translate into the effectiveness of decisions made in the near future.

During classes with students, films recently obtained by our guest are presented, i.e.:

It is with great pleasure that we announce that at this year's award gala of the 47th Silesian Juliusz Ligon Award, Prof. Dagmara Drzazga, a lecturer at the Kieslowski Film School of the University of Silesia, became one of the laureates!

The Ligonian Laurel awarded to Prof. Dagmara Drzazga, is recognition for a lifetime of filmmaking, particularly for commemorating the figure of Blessed Father Jan Mach.

Silesia is a particularly important place for the work of Prof. Dagmara Drzazga, as evidenced by the output of as many as eight films related to it and the passion with which she conveys her knowledge of its history and the people who create it.

"I once reached for the monthly magazine Silesia and read an article about the fact that there was a guillotine in Katowice and about Father Jan Mach. (...) I was shocked how it was possible that no one had made such a film before. (...) For me it's remarkable how I think about his courage, after all he knew what was at stake, and yet he met with young people, he wanted to help these families during the war..." - Dagmara Drzazga in an interview with Civitas Christiana TV about the Juliusz Ligon Award and the film "Without a single tree the forest will remain a forest," which we encourage you to watch!

We extend our warmest congratulations to Our laureate and wish her further successes inevitably connected with Silesia!
