Our lecturer prof. Dagmara Drzazga received the Maciej Łukasiewicz Award for publications on contemporary civilization and culture and popularization of knowledge for the film "Pokolenia" (2020) awarded during the 28th edition of the competition for the Awards of the Association of Polish Journalists. The Awards are granted for the best works published in 2020 in the Polish press, radio, television and the Internet.

Below is the justification of the jury:

We take part in a sentimental journey to Panna Maria - the oldest Polish settlement in Texas. The history of the ancestors of the inhabitants - settlers from Silesia – emerges from the conversations. We also see the contemporary generations of Texans in Poland, during a pilgrimage to Piekary Śląskie. An extremely colorful documentary, made with great class and artistry, excellent in terms of workshop.

The award ceremony of the Association of Polish Journalists took place at the Journalist's House - the headquarters of APJ in Warsaw on Thursday, June 17, 2021.

Anew (2020), dir. Zofia Sawicka begins its international festival circuit. Zofia Sawicka's documentary has its international premiere at the ZagrebDox International Documentary Film Festival, which will take place from 13 to 20 June 2021 in Zagreb, where it will be presented in the official Teen Dox program. The Teen Dox jury, made up of students from the American International School in Zagreb, will select the best film about youth issues.

The international premiere of our film will take place on June 15, 2021 at 5:00 pm at MM Centar.

Anew tells the story of Weronika, who tries to face the new reality right after leaving the sociotherapeutic center.

The film had its world premiere at the 39th “The Youth and Film” Koszalin Festival of Film Debuts in September last year.

“We can be heroes… just for one day” sang David Bowie in one of his greatest hits “Heroes.” Is it as simple as in these legendary words? What if the loss and fear want to take our biggest dreams? During the 10th edition of the Scientific Premiere Stage: Science Talk Show, we will think about how to find the strength to become a hero while facing a tragedy. The film “The Hero” by Milena Dutkowska will help us to find out.

The guest of our meeting is a graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków and the Krzysztof Kieślowski Film School, University of Silesia, where she studied at the Film and Television Directing programme. She has also created stage designs for theatre plays and her movies. Her productions made it to national and international festivals.

The hero versus the loss

The last film by Dutkowska The Hero was the only Polish proposition screened during the 43rd Moscow International Film Festival. The titular “hero” is a 10-year old Cyprian, who is fostered by the best grandmother in the world, dreams about joining the pantheon of true heroes. Unfortunately, he has to face two supervillains known to humanity, i.e. loss and fear. What will happen to the boy’s dreams? How will he deal with this challenge? What reflections can each of us draw from this? What does it mean to be a hero, and when do you become one? Does every superhero need to wear a cape, have the strength of ten elephants and move buildings with the power of the mind?

These are some of the issues we will talk about during the 10th Scientific Premiere Stage: Science Talk Show.

The new heroine in the cinema firmament

2021 is full of interesting challenges on the way of Milena Dutkiewicz. The young creator has joined the group of directors responsible for the TV series Open Your Eyes based on the novel Second Chance by Katarzyna Berenika Miszczuk. The TV series is produced by Netflix.

The meeting will be hosted by Marta Paluch, debuting on our SPN screen, a journalist connected with Radio eM and Gość Niedzielny weekly.

The event will be broadcast on 10 June, as usual at 6 p.m. The meeting will be in the online form, but we hope, soon, we will return to our favourite studio form.

Our lecturer and graduate, Andrzej Cichocki, received the Silver Hobby Horse in the category director of the best documentary film under 30 minutes for the film "A Little Paradise" at the 61st Krakow Film Festival, which ended on Sunday.

As we read in the verdict, the film by Andrzej Cichocki was appreciated by the jury for "a short film about infinity, from the shadow of the margin, poverty and degradation, bringing out the incomprehensible luminosity of life".

Andrzej Cichocki also received an award under the patronage of the Association of Polish Cinematographers for the best cinematography in the Polish competition.

The jury of the Polish competition during the 61st Krakow Film Festival was composed of: Jan P. Matuszyński - chairman, Piotr Bernaś, Krzysztof Czyżewski, Katarzyna Janowska, Adriana Prodeus.
