On March 25, 2022, a charity concert "City of Science for Ukraine" will be held on the roof of the Faculty of Humanities of the University of Silesia. The aim of the event, carried out by the consortium of the European City of Science 2024, which consists of Silesian universities and the City of Katowice, is to support the financial fundraising for the needs of Ukrainian students and their families.

As part of the event at 16:15 in the auditorium Andrzej Pawlikowski at the Faculty of Humanities, there will be a screening of the film "Donbas" (2018) directed by Sergei Łoźnica, which will be preceded by a lecture by prof. UŚ dr hab. Krystyna Doktorowicz - Dean of the Kieslowski Film School. Before the screening, there will also be shown short reports from the refugee route recorded by Adelina Borets - a Ukrainian student of directing at the Kieslowski Film School. Adelina Borets spent time in the attacked Kiev from where she reported on social media about everyday life in a city besieged by the Russians.

The concert "City of Science for Ukraine" is primarily intended to support those who suffered as a result of the war in Ukraine. The collected money and gifts will be donated to the needs of Ukrainian students, doctoral students and their families.

The Polish Film Academy has announced nominations for the 24th Polish Film Awards – Polish Eagles. "Leave no traces", directed by our graduate and lecturer, Dr. Jan P. Matuszyński, received as many as 13 nominations for the Polish Eagles 2022, including for the best director, script and film.

Co-directed by Łukasz Gutt - a graduate in Cinematography at the Kieślowski Film School, the film "Fears" received 7 nominations, and Łukasz Gutt was nominated in the categories: best director, cinematography and discovery of the year.

The Polish Film Academy also noticed series directed by our graduates teaching in directing. Nominations in the category of the best film series went to "Kruk. Czorny Woron nie śpi” directed by prof. dr hab. Maciej Pieprzyca made for CANAL + Polska and "Sexify", dir. Piotr Domalewski, MA realized for Netflix.

The Eagles 2022 Polish Film Awards were announced at a press conference held at the Norblin Factory in Warsaw on March 16, 2022. This year's Eagles 2022 Polish Film Awards ceremony will be held in May. The date will be made public soon.

The short fiction film "Last days of summer" (2020), dir. Klaudia Kęska with cinemastography by Kamil Małecki produced at the Kieślowski Film School received the Best Original Score Prize at the Women's International Film Festival Nigeria (WIFFEN) in Abuja, the capital of Nigeria.

Music for the film was composed by Żaneta Rydzewska with a track by Adrian Robak.

This year's edition of the festival was held on 4-5 March. The following films produced by our School were also competing for the awards: "Anatomy Lesson" (2020), dir. Gabriela Federowicz and "The Gap is Always Third" (2019), dir. Katarzyna Sikorska.

"Last Days of Summer" tells the story of a teenage Tosia who faces a difficult moral dilemma - a choice between justice and the protection of loved ones.

The production was managed by: Stanisław Bryś, Aleksandra Gajdosz and Ewa Dubiel. The producer of the film is Krystyna Doktorowicz (Kieślowski Film School of the University of Silesia).

The film had its world premiere at the 60th Krakow Film Festival, where it received the award for the best cinematography in the Polish competition and the acting award for Julia Kuzka.

Kieślowski Film School has become the partner school of the 9th edition of Visegrad Film Forum held in Bratislava on March 16-19, 2022, parallel to the FEBIOFEST International Film Festival (March 16-22, 2022). As part of the event on Saturday, March 19 at 1:00 p.m., the Lumière cinema will screen selected short films by students of the Kieslowski Film School. Our students will take part in meetings that will be a space for discussion not only about films, but also about filming conditions and the teaching system in selected schools.

The special guest of this year's edition of Visegrad Film Forum will be our graduate and lecturer, Dr. Jan P. Matuszyński. As part of the event, among others, his feature fiction films "The Last Family" (2016) and "Leave no traces" (2021) will be screened.

Visegrad Film Forum (VFF) is an international networking and educational platform for film and audiovisual students.

We regret to inform you that on March 7, 2022, Ernest Wilde, the Deputy Dean for Education and Student Affairs of the Kieślowski Film School, has passed away.

The Deputy Dean has been associated with our faculty for over 40 years. He was well liked, and he was especially concerned about the well-being of his students. The classes he conducted were among the highest rated. Always full of energy, he brilliantly commented on the surrounding reality. He was our friend and mentor.

It is an invaluable loss for the Film School and the entire University of Silesia. Repeatedly awarded with the Prize of the Rector of the University of Silesia for teaching and organizational achievements, three times nominated for the Student Laurel.

It is commonly believed that there are no irreplaceable people. Today, in this difficult moment, we are not able to imagine that anyone could fill the void left by the Deputy Dean...
