Quality of education

The Education Quality Assurance System (SZJK) at the University of Silesia was introduced by resolution No. 126 of the University of Silesia Senate of April 24, 2012. From 2021, its operation is based directly on Statutes of the University of Silesia. It includes in particular the following elements:

  • policy and procedures for ensuring the quality of education at the University;
  • principles of recruitment for studies;
  • analysis and improvement of educational programs;
  • system for verifying the assumed learning outcomes;
  • principles for ensuring a high level of teaching staff;
  • assessment of the educational process, including the organization and conditions of teaching classes;
  • studying the opinions of students, doctoral students and study participants postgraduate studies on the teaching activities conducted and the educational process, as well as employees’ opinions on the educational conditions;
  • studying the professional career of graduates in order to improve the educational process;
  • studying employers’ opinions on the preparation of graduates for professional work and using them in the process of creating and improving educational programs;
  • principles for monitoring, reviewing and improving the level and quality of equipment necessary for learning (including libraries, computers with Internet access) and support measures for students and doctoral students (e.g. research supervision or consultancy); 

The QMS covers students of all levels and forms of studies, doctoral students and postgraduate students, as well as employees of the University of Silesia.

The Education Quality Assurance System at the University of Silesia is built with respect for the autonomy and specificity of the faculties and other teaching units of the University – detailed procedures for ensuring the quality of education are developed by individual units using their good experience in this area.

It consists of The education system includes, among others, the university’s Education Quality and Accreditation Team, teaching councils of the field of study and course directors. The system is implemented and monitored, among others, thanks to the procedures included in the Education Quality Assurance System for fields of study organized by a given Faculty.

The Education Quality Assurance System is supported by two IT tools:

  • Directory card – IT module of the USOS system, which is used to collect complete data about education programs for all fields of study conducted at the University of Silesia and their management. It also enables the publication of necessary information about ongoing study programs, which is required, among others, by the provisions of the Study Regulations and the Polish Accreditation Committee, as well as publishing complete information in English for the ECTS Catalog required to participate in the Erasmus+ program.
  • Employee Portal – an IT tool used to collect and process a complete set of data about academic teachers of the University of Silesia, including: for the purposes of periodic evaluation, parametric evaluation, etc.

These tools enable the integration of information on individual aspects of education.

The current administrative support of the SZJK, supporting the activities of teaching councils of the field of study and directors of fields, as well as coordinating activities aimed at ensuring and improving the quality of studies are handled by Office Quality of Educationat the University of Silesia (BJK).

The process of monitoring the quality of education at the University uses, among others, the following tools:

The Education Quality Office was established in September 2012 on the initiative of the then Rector’s Plenipotentiary for Education Quality, Dr. hab. Alfred Czogała, professor at the University of Silesia. Its main task is to support conceptual and organizational activities undertaken by the Committee for Education and Students and the Team for the Quality of Education and Accreditation, as well as to coordinate activities aimed at ensuring and improving the quality of studies at the University. 

In connection with the order of the Rector of the University of Silesia No. 34/2020 of March 17, 2020 on changes in the organization and work system, tasks performed by employees of the Education Quality Office are carried out remotely (by phone, e-mail and using MS Teams) during the working hours of the general university administration.
